ENTREVISTA A CALL TO THE INFERNAL HORDES para Pseudostratiffied Epithelium

Gracias!!!

"1-Como estas Fernando, bienvenido a Call To The Infernal Hordes? Hi, thanks for consider our band to interview on your great zine and hope that it will be an interesting one.

Well, we all in life have issues that sometimes make us take some decisions that affect in some way or another our goals and priorities. Marco had those issues and he decided to leave the band.

We’ll continue as a duo. It’s easier for us to stay like that because we communicate better. The composition is easier and we have probed that studio work is more relax. Pseudo had several musicians, specially guitar players, but for some reason or another they don’t fit at all, so, we want to play just Mauricio and I.

Ok. This is our second full length CD. After INTO THE FLAMES, we had a several years out of scene, which is common in Pseudo, and we were composing new material. Our composition process is always slow, we masticate a lot our music, to say it in some way, we take our time, and we like the fact that we never had pressure from any label or contract or something like that. We make uncompromised music, just love metal as art and give the composition some sense and musical beauty. This record has very good sound. We recorded DOLONIA at Audio Arte Studios, Moravia, Costa Rica, from august 2005 to October 2005. We took our time to record, mix, and master the record. We are very pleased with the final result. It’s a concept album about Trojan War, based and inspired completely upon Homer’s Iliad, so, I think is an album that has everything; good sound production, good concept and lyrics and very good art made entirely by Bloodbath in Japan. It has 8 tracks which on of them is an instrumental song that has some rare sounds, very metal but not typical metal.

We recorded DOLONIA between august and october 2005. Bloodbath had some CD’s to produced first and took about year and a half to finally give Dolonia birth, but I think the wait worth it. As I said, we are very very pleased with the result, and, without mistaken myself, DOLONIA is the best Pseudo’s work so far.

-Musicalmente cual es la mayor diferencia de este nuevo material con el Into The Flames? Musically, not much. DOLONIA is fast, furious and grind. The main difference I think is that we are more mature and as a consequence our music reflects all that Pseudo has grown upon the years. Our musical experience is almost 13 year and not in vain DOLONIA is the record that it is. Another important aspect is the fact that all music and lyrics are written by Mauricio and I, nobody else have a simple riff on DOLONIA. Into the Flames was more as a quest for our real sound that we found finally on DOLONIA.

Marco gave Pseudo some lyrics but not all. The lyrics were usually wrote by me and some Mauricio’s. It’s true, our concept always changes, I think that are in some way an element that give Pseudo a charm. You never know what to expect from Pseudo about lyrics. Mauricio and I are a fanatics for ancient Greek literature, and by the time that we are writing DOLONIA we decided to give Death Metal a change, not only sing about guts and satan but make some lyrics about ancient heros who gave their lives for who they believe. If you read the book, I mean, The Iliad, you can find and universe of knowledge and violence, both aspects together. It gave us plenty material to do a good death metal album.

I consider myself a skeptic. So, I really don’t believe in satan, god, U.F.O, life outside earth, ghosts and stuff like that. Satanism is just another way to have some hobby or passion, just as christianism. But, I enjoy a lot to write lyrics about satan (arrrrrgggghhhhh) as a art form. I definitely am an antichristian but I’m not Satanist, because Christ is a man’s invention to take control by mind manipulation and fake promises of eternal life and some other false concepts. To be Satanist means to me, workship satan, a being that doesn’t exist, so yes, it is possible be antichristian an not to be Satanist.

Those were amazing experiences. We treveled on ’96 to Guatemala and El Salvador. Incredible gigs both, specially San Salvador. The people reacted very good, and at that time the metal freaks consider Pseudo the best band has played that year on El Salvador, and the gig was january the 21 first!!!. That kind of experience make the band grow a lot. After that we played in David, Panamá on 2000 and after that 2004 in David again and in Panama City. They were good gigs to, we earned a lot of memories and stories, and of course, experience.

Thanks. We are compromised with grind (jeje). To us, if you don’t have grind, you don’t have a song. Only two Pseudo’s song don’t have blast beat. We love what we do, we like fast music, extreme fast!!! So, the less we can do is compose fast songs. I don’t like very much to label music, but, if you ask us about our genre I said that we play death metal. We like to introduce some elements but nothing radical to the point to transform death metal on something else. I mean, if you look trough the internet, you’ll find sites that label Pseudo as brutal grind, death grind, brutal death, even, someone out there said that we are thrash (…???), so labels are irrelevant. We like what we do, without any compromise and at first, looking for our own pleasure.

Well, we are kind disappointed with several gigs that we had in the past. Metal in Costa Rica is hard work, and when you play some gig your hope is that many people approach and support your work. But lately is not that way. Because of that situation, the people who work about organize gigs don’t like to invest enough upon gigs, because always carry loss, so the sound not always is the best and your performance is lack of quality. But, I think that this situation can change. I’ve seen that metal scene has grow lately and freaks are more compromise to support bands ‘cause we have, here in Costa Rica, amazing bands and they have realize that you don’t have to listen foreign bands to please your metal instincts. We are planning to come back with a good show and officially present our DOLONIA.

It’s quite separate I think. Some people don’t respect musical taste of other people. If I like extreme metal probably I’ll think that power metal is shit. Ok, I can think that but we have to respect other people taste. So, if you try to organize a event, many people say that you only like to invite “taro” bands and not heavy or power, and when you invite both, nobody wants to go because you won’t pay for only one or two bands on your taste; what do you want? Explain that to me because I don’t understand metal freaks. All metal music, as form of art, has its value. No doubt about it. I personally like to hear well done metal, any genre but well done. We need to be tolerant to each other.

Well, really not much. We have played, take care of our stuff, see those bands show and everybody home or bar. Nothing more to tell.

As a musician you’ll like to help not only your own and personal projects but other peoples projects. ASOMETAL is an organization that have brought Costa Rica metal scene a change, new ideas and participation of many people. Is a legal persona that has legal id number and all Costarican law supports. So is a big project. I think that far to interfere with Pseudo work, is something that will help any band in Costa Rica, including Pseudo of course. About POSTMORTEM, is a band of closest and dearest friends that asked me about the idea to play some songs with them and compose some others. I agree and we trying to make good music and give metal new material. Pseudo and Postmortem are quite different bands. I learn a lot from both bands.
